After an outstanding performance Wednesday night against No. 16 ranked Baylor, the Sam Houston softball team continues their road swing with an important Southland Conference series in San Antonio Friday and Saturday.
The Bearkats take on Incarnate Word in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. on Friday and completes the series with a single game Saturday at 12 noon in the Alamo City.
Wednesday, Sam Houston lost to the Bears in Waco 1-0 in the first game of a schedule doubleheader. The Bearkats were up 6-2 over Baylor through three innings when rain and lightning struck and forced cancelation of the game.
Sam Houston had won six of their last seven games coming into the Baylor contest. The only loss was a one-run extra-inning defeat.
Dani Allen leads the team with a .318 batting average and has scored 25 runs. The Kats have hit 41 home runs this season led by eight apiece from Sarah Allison and Hillary Adams and seven from Peyton Webb.
Sam Houston has four pitchers who have all worked between 45 and 80 innings. Meme Quinn is 6-6 with a 4.86 earned run average in a team high 80 innings while Haley Baros leads the squad with a 3.45 ERA.
The Bearkats and the UIW Cardinals met earlier this season at the UT-Arlington Maverick Invitational. Sam Houston won 5-2, opening the contest with a three-run innings. Jordan Franks and Baros combined to pick up the win in the circle.
Incarnate Word has played only 11 home games out of 43 contests this year. The Cardinals opened the season by playing their first 23 games away from home. All three of their conference victories have come on the UIW home field.
Following this weekend's action, Sam Houston will close the regular season schedule with a home series against Stephen F. Austin on Friday May 1 and Saturday May 2.
