
Demons visit Tuesday in non-conference tilt

Northwestern State visits Don Sanders Stadium for a non-conference baseball contest versus Sam Houston Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m.
The Demons bring a 17-13 overall record to Huntsville after losing twice in a three-game Southland Conference series to the first place Southeastern Louisiana Lions over the weekend. Northwestern State stands 9-5 in league play.
Sam Houston is 15-19 for the year and 8-7 in Southland action after dropping two of the Kats' three games at Stephen F. Austin Thursday through Saturday. Three weeks ago, in the Southland series between the Bearkats and Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La., the Demons won the first two tilts 1-0 and 10-8 and the SHSU men bounced back to take the third game 9-3.
Northwestern State is led at the plate by senior infielder Chase Daughdrill and junior catcher Cort Brinson. Daughdrill is hitting .333 with two home runs and 14 runs batted in. Brinson leads the Demons with 26 RBIs and sports a .311 average at the plate.
Left-handed sophomore Devin Bear will be the starter on the mound for the Demons. Dylan Ebbs will be the Kats' starter. Ebbs stands 3-1 this season and has seen action in nine games.
Ebbs also is one of the Bearkats' top hitters with a .318 average. First baseman Spence Rahm leads Sam Houston with a .338 batting average this year.
With six weeks remaining in the 2015 Southland Conference race, Sam Houston stands tied for sixth place with Nichols. Southeastern Louisiana leads the Southland with an 11-4 record with Central Arkansas a game behind with a 10-5 mark.
The top eight teams in the final regular season standings qualify for the Southland Conference tournament in Sugar Land May 20-23.
The contest with Northwestern State Tuesday is the first of four home games this week at Don Sanders Stadium. Sam Houston plays host to Incarnate Word in the Kats' next conference series. Game times are 6:30 p.m. Friday, 3 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
