Kuwahara Named CoSIDA Academic All-District

Janine Kuwahara, sophomore women's bowler from Sam Houston, has been named to the 2015 College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) Academic All-District At-Large honor squad for District 7.
She and her fellow honorees were selected from a list of nominations from NCAA Division I universities in Arkansas, Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma and Texas.
The Academic At-Large designation includes the sports of bowling, crew, fencing, field hockey, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis and water polo.
Kuwahara led the Sam Houston women's bowling team in total pins in traditional team matches this year with a 201.6 average. She earned National Ten Pins Coaches Association All-America honors after helping lead the Bearkat bowling team to its second consecutive NCAA Final Four appearance at the national championships in Saint Louis, Missouri in April.
The Bearkat women finished the 2014-15 season with a 91-49 won-loss record that included victories over 52 top 20 ranked opponents. Sam Houston stood No. 5 in the 2015 final NTCA national rankings.
The Bearkat two-year letter winner from Davo City, Mindanao in the Philippines also was a member of Sam Houston's NCAA national championship team in 2014.
Kuwahara stands as the ninth Bearkat student-athlete to earn this prestigious honor. Previous winners have been Ryan Bright (men's basketball, 2008), Jordon Bowersox (football, 2009), Alyssa Coggins (softball, 2014), Joston Crow (men's basketball, 2010), Jenny Pence (soccer, 2009), Lance Pevehouse (men's basketball, 2010-11), Kevin Riley (football, 1993) and Chad Scott (football, 1997)
