Torry Butler, a 6-5 forward, signs with Kats

Torry Butler, a 6-5 athletic forward from Three Rivers Community College in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, has become the fifth player to sign a letter-of-intent to attend Sam Houston State University and play men's basketball for head coach Jason Hooten.
The former high school all-star from Monticello, Arkansas, averaged 12.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists for Three Rivers this past season.
“Torry will be versatile player who can play multiple positions,” Hooten said. “He comes from a quality program at Three Rivers where he played for Hall of Fame coach Gene Bess. We envision Torry playing the same kind of role Demarcus Gatlin filled this past season.Torry can really rebound the ball, guard at multiple positions and has a great feel for the game.”
Butler earned NJCAA first team all-region honors and was a first team all-conference selection. He led Three Rivers to a 23-8 overall record in 2014-15.
"Torry is a good player with a big upside,” Bess said. The head coach has totaled 1,208 victories in 45 seasons. “He is long and athletic with great hands and a strong motor. He still is improving. Torry is coachable and has a good basketball IQ. He led our team in rebounding and field goal shooting. Sam Houston is getting a good player who will fit in well with Coach Hooten's system."
Butler was a standout performer for Monticello High School.
Sam Houston's first four signings for the 2015-16 season were Jovante' Spivey, 6-0 170-pound guard from South Georgia State College; Andre Sands, 6-8 250-pound post player from Casper College in Casper, Wyoming; Marc Fortin, a 6-9 230-pound post from Cegep De Sainte-Foy in Quebec City in Canada and Ameer Jackson, a 6-4 guard from Dodge City Community College in Kansas.
Sam Houston has totaled 50 victories the past two seasons, advancing to the finals of the Southland Conference in Katy and earning an NCAA post-season berth in the CollegeInsider.com Tournament for consecutive years
