Brooke White Earns Southland Weekly Honor

Brooke White, who was the team's kill leader as Sam Houston rolled to a 3-1 record during the first weekend of the season, has been named as Southland Conference volleyball “Offensive Player of the Week.”
The sophomore from Fort Worth / All Saints Episcopal High School, earned all-tournament honors as Sam Houston finished as runner-up in the 27th Bearkat Invitational volleyball tournament Friday and Saturday at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The Kats' only loss came in five sets to defending Conference USA champion UTSA. The Roadrunners edged Sam Houston 15-12 in the final frame for the narrow victory. The Bearkats won in three sets over Tulane and Prairie View A&M and four sets versus Montana State from the Big Sky Conference.
White led Sam Houston in points (66) and in scoring of each match. White totaled 59 kills in 15 sets over the weekend and had a hitting percentage of .255. She posted double figure kills in each match with a high of 17 in the UTSA loss. She also accounted for 34 digs and three blocks on defense.
White leads the Southland Conference in total kills after first weekend of action.
Sam Houston heads to Waco for their next action, facing the Baylor Bears, Coppin State and Cal Poly in the team's second tournament of the year.
The Bearkats' next home match is Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they play host to Texas State at 6:30 p.m. at Johnson Coliseum.
