Hello everyone!
This past weekend we played against A&M Corpus Christi and Houston Baptist. We lost on Friday against Houston Baptist 1-0. It was a hard fought game but unfortunately, they put one away before halftime and we weren't able to counter that. On the other hand, we won Sunday's game 1-0. We should have had many more goals with the amount of opportunities we had.
This past weekend was also family weekend for SHSU so many of the players parents came in and stayed for the weekend, which is always fun. We also had 10 commits come in for their official visits. It was a crazy, fun-filled weekend getting to spend time with our family and also getting to know the recruits for next year. They were all so sweet and easy going which makes our team that much more excited for them to get here next year.
Our loss on Friday was definitely a tough one for the team. The first 10 minutes, we were all over their defense and we possessed the ball extremely well, but it dropped throughout the half and they ended up getting a goal before halftime. The second half we played completely different than what we ended with in the first half. We had a few more opportunities but unfortunately could not put any of them away. It was a very emotional game for the team because we knew that was a game that we could have won, but we quickly learned that we aren't just going to be handed each game. We have to play start to finish with the same intensity we practice with.
We knew that we were going to have to change some things if we still wanted a chance to win conference. At Saturday's practice, we discussed the game from Friday but quickly switched our focus to Sunday's game. We did some technical work on what we were inconsistent with in Friday's game so that way we could correct those errors for our next game.
Since we are coming off a loss from Friday, we came out hard in the first half. Again, we had many chances but just couldn't put them away. But due to all of our high pressure and the fact we kept possession most of the second half, we finally got a goal in the second half. I know that going into practices this week, we will be reviewing all of our mistakes from this past weekend so that we can learn from them and improve going into this weekend. We expect to come out of this weekend with two wins but it is all going to start with how we prepare and how we can learn from our previous games.
