HUNTSVILLE, Texas – It's a short week for the Sam Houston State Bearkats with just one match on the docket on Saturday when they travel to Abilene to battle Abilene Christian at Moody Coliseum.
The Kats will return home after Saturday for five of their next seven matches in Huntsville.
Coach Brenda Gray's Bearkats just missed running their win streak to four in a row on Saturday, falling in five sets at league-leading Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. Still, the Kats have been much better since the calendar moved them into Southland Conference play. Sam Houston currently sits second in the SLC in kills (13.41 kps) and assists (12.91) against league competition.
The Kats are still getting great production from setter Michelle Griffith who leads the league with 11.43 assists per set in conference-only matches, while Jordyn Vaughn is still fourth among all SLC players with 3.36 kills per set for the season.
But they have also gotten great work from Brooke White of late as she has totaled at least 10 kills in each of her last five matches, averaging 3.00 kills per set during that stretch. Amanda Gooch also averaged 2.44 kills and 1.33 blocks per set in last week's two matches, while freshman Addison Miller has held down the libero spot, averaging 4.63 digs per set over her last four matches.
The Wildcats have found their stride after entering conference play, winning five of eight matches within the league after dropping 14 of 15 on the non-conference slate. They have won three of their last four matches overall after going five sets to knock off Stephen F. Austin on Thursday at Moody Coliseum. The Wildcats have played just four home matches this season, winning all four.
THE SERIES

The Kats are 5-1 all-time against ACU, having won the first five matches in the series before falling to the Wildcats in 2015 in Abilene. Sam Houston is 2-1 against ACU since the Wildcats joined the Southland Conference for the 2013.
