Each week this season, we'll take a look at the numbers you need to know following Sam Houston State football's most recent matchup. On Saturday, the top-ranked Sam Houston State football team improved to 7-0 with a 38-21 victory at Nicholls.
- With Saturday's win, Sam Houston moved to 7-0 on the season, making it just the fourth time in program history the team has started off a year with at least seven victories. The last time came in 2011 when the team won its first 15 games on a run to the FCS Championship game. Sam Houston also started off 8-0 in 1964, and went 10-0 in 1956.
- Jeremiah Briscoe continues to put up stellar numbers this season, and Saturday at Nicholls was no different. The junior threw for 419 yards and three scores against the Colonels, his third 400-yard passing game of the season. No other quarterback in Sam Houston history has ever had three 400-yard passing games in a career, much less a season. He also now has 29 touchdown passes for the year and needs just one more to become just the fourth Bearkat quarterback with 30 touchdown passes in a single season.
- Corey Avery picked up 36 yards against the Colonels, giving him 2,005 rushing yards as a Bearkat. He is just the 12th Bearkat rushes to go over 2,000 yards for a career.
- Briscoe found 11 different receivers in the win, marking the fourth time this season in just seven games in which the Kats have had 11 different receivers haul in a pass.
- Seven of those passes went to Davion Davis, who finished with a career-best 121 yards receiving.
- The game was the 10th straight win for the Bearkats in the all-time series against Nicholls.
- The Kats held the Colonels to just 129 yards and no points in the opening half. It is the second straight game Sam Houston has shut its opponent out in the first half, allowing just 189 total yards in the first half of games against Nicholls and Abilene Christian.
- Sam Houston's offense continues to pace the country, leading all of FCS with 591.2 yards of offense per game and 52.4 points per game.
