Kats Keep Rolling Against Southeastern

HUNTSVILLE, Texas – Sam Houston State continued its winning streak, defeating Southeastern Louisiana 3-1 (25-15, 19-25, 25-13,) Thursday at the Health and Kinesiology Center.

Junior outside hitters Jordyn Vaughn and Brooke White combined for 32 kills on the match to lead the Kats (14-12, 8-5 SLC) to their third-straight victory. Sam Houston dug 60 attacks and contained the Lions (6-21, 5-9 SLC) to a .197 hitting percentage.

SET 1
Vaughn hit for five kills, contributing for half of Sam Houston's first set kills. The Bearkat defense held Southeastern Louisiana to a .103 hitting percentage. Senior outside hitter Breanna Homer had two of the Kats' four service aces.

SET 2
Sam Houston dropped the second set, 25-19, as the Lions fired a .323 hitting percentage. Vaughn added another six kills to her night, but the Bearkat offense could only hit for .103. The Kats defended off three set points but an attack error on junior outside hitter Amanda Gooch ended the set.

SET 3
Heading into the set with just two kills on the game, White fired away six kills on 10 attempts to lead the Bearkats to a 25-13 win. The 12-point set win was the team's largest set win since Oct. 20 versus Northwestern State. Sam Houston had another four-service aces performance behind White's three aces.

SET 4
The Bearkats broke off to a 10-3 run to end the set after 13 times in the set before the Bearkats broke off on a 10-3 run to end the set, 25-18. White dominated the set once again, finishing the set with nine kills. Sam Houston hit a game-high .425 hitting percentage. Griffith assisted on 15 of team's 20 kills on the set.

PLAYERS OF THE MATCH
The junior hitter duo of Vaughn and White hit for 15 or more kills each for the first time since Oct. 15 at Abilene Christian. Vaughn ended the match with 15 kills, eight digs and two service aces. White hit for .421 in the fourth set and led the team in hitting overall with 17 kills. She also added seven digs and three aces.

KEY STATS
Sam Houston served its best game of the season as five players finished the match with two or more kills. The team's 12 aces are a season best. Griffith assisted on 43 kills for the second straight game. The Bearkats defense allowed just 39 kills; their fewest allowed kills since Oct. 22 against Central Arkansas.

UP NEXT
Sam Houston will play its last home game of the 2016 campaign Saturday against the University of New Orleans. The Bearkats will round out the regular season next week on the road at Central Arkansas and Northwestern State.
