By the numbers: Kats Hold On Over Mocs

Each week this season, we'll take a look at the numbers you need to know following Sam Houston State football's most recent matchup. On Saturday, top-ranked Sam Houston State advanced to the quarterfinals of the FCS Playoffs with a 41-36 win over Chattanooga.
- Quarterback Jeremiah Briscoe broke the Southland Conference's single-season record for touchdown passes in the regular-season finale vs Central Arkansas, but claimed the FCS record on Saturday against Chattanooga. The junior threw for five scores against the Mocs, giving him 57 for the season and surpassing the previous record of 56 set by Mississippi Valley State's Willie Totten in 1984 and Grambling's Bruce Eugene in 2005. Next up is the overall Division I record of 58, set by Hawaii's Colt Brennan in 2008. The NCAA record (all divisions) is held by Division III Linfield's Brett Elliott, who threw for 61 in 2004.
- Briscoe's favorite target all season, especially the last three weeks has been junior wide receiver Yedidiah Louis. In the last three weeks Louis has hauled in 28 passes for 449 yards and eight touchdowns. He now has 1,133 yards for the season and is the seventh Bearkat receiver in program history to reach 1,000 yards for a season. His eight receptions against the Mocs also gave him 215 catches for his career, moving him past Matt Dominguez's 211 catches for the all-time Sam Houston record. He is now just 15 catches from obtaining the Southland's career mark in receptions, and is 343 yards short of the league's all-time yardage mark.
- In addition to Louis going over the 1,000 mark, the Bearkats have two more receivers who are near the millennium mark as well. Nathan Stewart needs just 49 yards and Davion Davis needs 73 to reach 1,000 yards for the season. Only the 2013 and 2014 Fordham teams have ever boasted three 1,000-yard receivers on the same roster in a single season.
- The Kats got into the end zone six times on Saturday against Chattanooga, with five of the scoring drives lasting less than a minute. Sam's other scoring drive went 65 yards in just 2:49.
- The win moves Sam Houston to 17-9 all-time in the FCS playoffs and to 11-0 in playoff games played at Bowers Stadium.
- Sam Houston started off the game with a 21-0 lead against the Mocs, leading 14-0 at the end of the first quarter. It was the eighth time in 12 games that the Bearkats have shut out its opponent in the opening quarter.
