With under three weeks until Opening Day, Sam Houston State baseball single-game tickets are now on sale for the Bearkats 28 home matchups including marquee early season visits from Big 12 members Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Baylor and Rice.
Reserved tickets for the Oklahoma series are on sale for $12 with general admission priced at $10. The Sooners, ranked No. 21 preseason by Baseball America, have played in 10 College World Series and boast 36 NCAA Regional trips and visit Don Sanders Stadium for three games from Feb. 26-28.
Reserved seating includes Sections 3, 4 and 5 and general admission seating is in bleacher sections 1, 2, 6, 7 and 8. Tickets can be purchased by calling the Sam Houston ticket office at (936) 294-1729 or by visiting GoBearkats.com.
Tickets for the Kats' Feb. 24 single-game against Texas Tech and March 2 matchup against Rice are $10 reserved and $8 general admission. The Red Raiders are picked preseason No. 25 by Perfect Game while the Owls are ranked No. 24 in the USA Today Coaches Poll.
All other games, including the Feb. 23 season opener against UTSA are priced at $8 reserved and $6 general admission. A special group rate is also available featuring $2 off per ticket with a purchase of 10 tickets or more to a single game.
The Kats also host notable non-conference games against Baylor (March 1), Texas State (March 28) and No. 12 Houston (May 3), all priced at the regular $8 reserved and $6 general admission cost.
“This schedule is as tough out of conference as anyone in the country,” second-year head coach Matt Deggs said. “Our league is always a dog fight but inside of that we need to make sure our RPI is taken care of. It's super important for us to win non-conference weekends and midweek. We'll have no excuses – this is a schedule where we can do that.”
Sam Houston will play 15 Southland Conference games at The Don including visits from Northwestern State (March 18-22), Central Arkansas (April 1-3), Stephen F. Austin (April 8-10), Abilene Christian (April 22-24) and Houston Baptist (May 19-21).
“At a mid-major, any time you can be even on home games and away games that's big time,” Deggs said. “We had fewer home games than road games last year and that was something I wanted to address. The following year in 2017, we're at 34.”
Season tickets are also still on sale for $200 reserved ($7.14 per ticket for 28 games). The option includes a $100 donation to the Bearkat Champions Fund, which support scholarships for student-athletes, and is 80 percent tax deductible. General admission seats are $99 ($3.53 per ticket).
“We draw better than anyone in the league and it is a definite edge and home-field advantage for us,” Deggs said. “I expect us to give fans plenty of reasons to get it rocking. I always tell our guys that people will pay to see a fight. People will pay to watch a team scrap and work hard. That's who we are.”
