First place Wildcats top Sam women 67-55

Angela Beadle scored 17 points and Kamry Orr added 15 to lead Sam Houston in a 67-55 loss to Southland Conference leader Abilene Christian Wednesday night at ACU's Moody Coliseum.

The Southland Conference's first place team since the opening week of the season, Abilene Christian now stands 20-3 for the years and 11-1 in league play. Sam Houston now stands 4-8 in conference action and 8-14 for the season.

With her performance Beadle moved into eight place in Sam Houston women's basketball career scoring. The senior from Austin has scored 1,090 points. She passed Brittany Brooks in the all-time Bearkat standings. Brooks scored 1,180 points in 2007 through 2010.

Beadle also pulled down nine rebounds. Shernise Robertson added eight points and Laurynn McGowen scored seven for the Kats.

Alexis Mason led the Wildcats with 17 points. Suzzy Dimba scored 14.

After two early ties, Abilene Christian took control leading the rest of the way. The biggest Wildcat lead was 17 points early in the third period. ACU's control of the offensive boards gave the Kats a 22-7 advantage in second change points.

The loss in Abilene ends a five-game Southland Conference road swing for the Bearkats. Sam Houston will play five of its final six regular season games at home in Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum. The Kats return home to play host to Houston Baptist Saturday at 2 p.m.
