Sam Houston won all six singles to rack up its fifth victory in seven dual matches this season with a 6-1 victory over Missouri State Saturday in Arlington.
Fabienne Gettwart, Carrie Casey, Ema Barkovic and Khee Yen Wee all won in straight sets while Mila Milanovic and Maddie Mortimore had to go to a third set to win. Missouri State's only point in doubles where MSU took the number two and three sets
Gettwart defeated Ema Turudija 6-2, 6-1 at number one. Casey won over Anelisse Torrico 6-2, 7-5 at number two. Barkovic took the number three singles 6-1 6-0 over Eketerina Donetskova. Yen Wee in her first action in dual match play defeated Phoebe Boeschen 6-4 6-3 at number six.
Milanovic downed Miranda Poile 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 and Mortimore topped Faty Khamissi 6-1 3-6 6-1.
Casey and Milanovic paired to win the number one doubles 6-2.
“I think we are almost there as a team, very close to breaking through to be the way we want to be in doubles,” Sam Houston assistant coach Olivia Battye said. “We were really solid throughout the line up in singles. We have to keep growing as a team, not just in tomorrow's match, but in every practice and every match we have for the rest of the season.”
