Khee Yen Wee and Maddie Mortimore picked up Sam Houston's two points in a 5-2 loss at UT-Arlington Sunday in a women's tennis dual match at the UTA Tennis Center.

Wee defeated Jessica Birowski 6-2 6-2 at number five singles and Mortimore earned her victory in a super-tiebreaker after splitting sets in a 6-4 4-6 1-0 (11-9) win.

The victory ups UTA's record to 4-0 for the year and extends the Mavericks' home court victory string to 16 at the UTA Tennis Center.

“UTA is a very strong opponent but our team did a good job against them,” Sam Houston assistant coach Olivia Battye said. “We came out a bit flat in doubles but the girls know we need to continue to improve that aspect of their game. We have had a solid non-conference season.”

The match was the final non-conference outing for the Bearkats before beginning Southland Conference play next weekend. The Sam Houston women will play host to New Orleans and Southeastern Louisiana next Saturday and Sunday at the McAdams Tennis Center. Both matches will start at 11 a.m.
