Softball falls to Baylor 13-4

A solo home run in the bottom of the first inning by second baseman Dani Allen got Sam Houston off to a good start but Baylor's bats were too much as the Bears rolled up a 13-4 run-rule victory in five innings at the Softball Complex.

Last year's Big 12 runner-up and an NCAA Regional Finalist, Baylor totaled 13 hits including a double and four home runs. Nine different players produced hits with center fielder Jessie Scroggins leading the way with a 2-for-4 performances and 5 runs batted in. The Bears started the season ranked No. 21 nationally.

Allen was the hitting hero for Sam Houston, going 3-for-3 at the plate. She smacked a solo home run over the left field fence in her first at bat and picked up a pair of doubles in her other two trips to the plate. The home run was the second for the Bearkats this season.

Third baseman Tiffany Castillo went 2-for-3, bringing in runs with doubles in both the fourth and fifth innings. Catcher Katie Doerre collected the Kats' fourth RBI with a double to right center in the fourth inning.

Taylor Atkinson, Lindsey McLeod and Jordan Franks all saw action in the circle for Sam Houston. Atkinson took the loss. The Bearkats now stand 2-6 for the season.

Sam Houston's next action will see the Kats play against both Creighton and North Texas on both Saturday and Sunday in the Mean Green Classic in Denton.
