Robertson cracks 1,000 mark in 75-57 win

Shernise Robertson scored 25 points to lead the Sam Houston women's basketball team to a 75-57 Southland Conference victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and become the 16th Bearkat woman to score more than 1,000 points in her career.

The senior who came to Sam Houston from Tyler Junior College last year, is the first SHSU playter to score her 1,000 points in just two years.

Kamry Orr added 16 points and Angela Beadle scored 11 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Bearkats upped their season record to 10-16 and stand 6-10 in league play.

Shay Weaver led A&M-Corpus Christi with 15 points and seven rebounds as the Islanders dropped to 9-17 for the year and 6-10 in the Southland.

Sam Houston never trailed, leading at halftime 34-27 and by as many as 20 points in the fourth period.

Robertson, who leads the Southland Conference in scoring for the second year in a row, now has totaled 1,007 points. The senior guard also collected 10 assists.

The Bearkats shot 44.1 percent from the floor, hitting 26-of-59, and out-rebounded the Islanders 53-34. Sam Houston out-scored Corpus Christi 24-14 in the paint.

Sam Houston plays its final two regular season games at home next week against Lamar on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. and Stephen F. Austin on Saturday at 4:35 p.m.
