Sam Houston rallied after losing the doubles point to win five of the six singles contests to earn a 5-2 non-conference women's tennis dual match victory over Montana State Saturday morning.

The victory upped the Bearkats' season record to three victories and only two losses.

Fabienne Gettwart was a dual winner for Sam Houston today, defeating Naomi Holopainen 6-3 5-7 6-1 at number one singles and pairing with Caitlyn Mitchell for a 6-4 victory in the number three doubles set.

Carrie Casey, Ema Barkovic, Mila Milanovic and Maddie Mortimore all won in singles.

Casey and Mortimore won in straight sets at the number two and five positions, respectively. Casey defeated Laura Middel 6-1 6-0 while Mortimore upped her 2016 singles record to 4-1 with a 6-1 6-0 win over Molly Crum.

Barkovic defeated Jessica Brycki 6-3 4-6 7-5 at number three and Milanovic took the number four singles over Angelina Philippova 6-4 2-6 6-4. Mitchell lost 6-1 6-3 to Linda Vink at number six singles.

“After a great effort against an outstanding SMU team Friday evening, we came out flat in doubles today,” Sam Houston assistant coach Olivia Battye said. “But we bounced back with some excellent performances in singles. To keep growing as a team, we can't get off to a slow start in doubles. The players need to bring it every match.”

Sam Houston's next action will be a home match against South Dakota State at 1 p.m. on Sunday, February 14 at the McAdams Tennis Center.
