Nicholls Series Pushed Back One Day

The Sam Houston softball team resumes Southland Conference action this weekend, heading to Thibodaux, La., to take on Nicholls in a three-game series.
Due to the threat of rain on Friday, the games have been pushed back a day to Saturday and Sunday. The two teams will meet in a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday and wrap up the weekend with a 12 noon first pitch Sunday.
Sam Houston is looking for its first Southland Conference win after being swept by preseason league favorite McNeese in Huntsville last Friday and Saturday. Nicholls is 1-1 in league play, opening the conference with a split with Stephen F. Austin.
The Colonels feature one of the top pitching staffs in the Southland. Nicholls owns the league's second lowest team earned run average with a 2.39 mark. The Colonels staff has struck out 126 batters in 158 innings of action.
Senior pitcher Hannah Haydel leads the Colonels with a 1.83 season earned run average and a 7-4 record in the circle. Freshman Megan Landry has compiled a 2.23 ERA and a 7-5 won-loss record so far this season.
Sam Houston has spread pitching duties throughout its staff with Lindsey McLeod, Jordan Franks and Taylor Atkinson all having made more than 10 appearances this year. Brooke Seneshen has thrown in seven games and Jade Alford in two. McLeod leads the team with 43 strike outs.
Top hitters for the Bearkats include second baseman Dani Allen (.370), shortstop Ashley Goetz (.321), catcher/outfielder Tiffany Castillo (.286), outfielder Breanna Homer (.259) and first baseman Codi Carpenter (.233).
Nicholls ranks fifth in the Southland Conference in hitting with a .293 overall average. Top Colonel offensive threats are Amanda Gianelloni (.384), Kristen Ahearn (.364) and Alexis Huss (.347).
Following the series in Louisiana, Sam Houston returns to the Bearkat Softball Complex for non-conference games Tuesday and Wednesday against Texas Southern and Louisiana-Lafayette.
