Both Fabienne Gettwart and Carrie Casey rallied from a set down to win their singles matches in three sets as Sam Houston picked up its first Southland Conference women's tennis dual match of the season with a 5-2 victory at Nicholls in Thibodaux, La., Friday.
Gettwart defeated Julia Melendez in the number one singles 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 while Casey topped Milou Pietersz 1-6 6-2 6-4 at number two. Ema Barkovic and Mila Milanovic picked up straight set victories at number three and five singles, respectively. Barkovic won the first set in a 7-2 tiebreaker.
Maddie Mortimore won at number six singles in a default.
Sam Houston continues its Louisiana road trip with a match at McNeese State Saturday.
