Sam Houston dropped its two games Saturday at the Under Amour Classic hosted by South Florida in Clearwater Saturday.
The Bearkats fell 6-5 to East Carolina in the first game and were run-ruled 9-1 by Villanova in the nightcap.
Dani Allen went 2-for-4 at the plate as the Bearkats totaled eight hits in the opener against East Carolina. Shortstop Ashley Goetz batted in two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to pull Sam Houston within a run, 3-2. After East Carolina tallied three times in the top of the six, pinch hitter Hannah Marino blasted a three-run homer to again cut the margin to one.
Brooke Seneshen took the loss in the circle. Jordan Franks and Taylor Atkinson saw action in relief.
Villanova took advantage of five Bearkat errors as pitcher Katie Poppe allowed Sam Houston only two hits in the nightcap.
Sam Houston completes action in Clearwater Sunday morning. The Bearkats will play host to Texas A&M at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in Huntsville.
