Jessica Schram from New Lenox, Illinois, has signed a letter-of-intent to attend Sam Houston and bowl for head coach Brad Hagen and the nationally-ranked Bearkats.
A standout bowler for Lincoln Way West High School, Schram has made a name for herself at several of the prestigious bowling events. Last summer in Chicago she placed 56th in the USBC Junior Gold National Championships. With nearly 800 of the United States' most talented female student-athletes involved, the tournament is one of the most competitive junior events in the world.
“Jessica is a young lady who is humble and yet hates to lose at anything which makes her an excellent asset to this program's future,” Hagen said. “We're always striving to find the best unknowns with the greatest amount of potential and athleticism and Jessica is exactly that. Her local and national experiences to date along with her work ethic will make her a vital asset here as a Bearkat.”
Schram helped lead her high school team to qualification for the state championship. The squad's performance included a 300 game at the Illinois State Regional event.
The six-year-old Sam Houston women's bowling program has earned five berths in the NCAA Championships including four consecutive trips to the event. The Bearkats won the 2014 championship and reached the semifinals against in 2015.
