Codi Carpenter SLC Hitter of Week

Freshman first baseman Codi Carpenter has been selected as Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week after leading the Bearkats to a series sweep of the University of the Incarnate Word this past weekend.
Earning three consecutive run-rule victories over the Cardinals with scores of 9-1, 8-0 and 8-0, Sam Houston extended its current winning streak to four games and moved to within a victory of clinching the sixth and final berth in the Southland Conference tournament to be held Wednesday May 11 to Saturday May 14 in Lake Charles, La.
Carpenter went 8-for-9 at the plate for a .889 batting average on the weekend. She hit safely in her first eight consecutive at bats before flying out to deep center field in the series finale on Saturday. The Magnolia product scored two runs, batted in three more and had a 1.220 slugging percenter. Defensively she accounted for nine put outs. Her performance at the plate in the UIW series extended her current hitting streak to five games.
Sam Houston will complete the regular season schedule with a road series at Stephen F. Austin Friday and Saturday in Nacogdoches. Friday's action will consist of a 3 p.m. single game. The pair will finish the series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
