Catch up with soccer senior Allie Johnson

Leading up to the 2016 Sam Houston State soccer season, we'll visit with the team's seven seniors. The unit seeks to add on to success from last season that included the program's first 10-win season and an appearance in the Southland Conference Tournament championship game.
In the second edition, we catch up with Allen native Allie Johnson. The forward was named a league honorable mention during the regular season and all-tournament honoree. Johnson posted a brace in league tournament semifinals match against HBU, vaulting the Kats into their first championship match in 10 years behind 2-0 result. She finished first on team with eight goals and ranked eighth in league action with 0.45 goals per match.
What is your favorite thing about Sam Houston State?
The people I've met here are probably what I love most about this school. I have met some of the most caring, selfless and loving individuals that have changed my life. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have gotten the opportunity to play here at Sam and to be able to make memories day by day with the people that I love.
What is your most fond memory of playing soccer for the Bearkats?
Traveling with the team is one of my favorite things. My other favorite was the conference tournament last year. We went to the championship for the first time in 10 years and broke records throughout that tournament. Even though we lost in the championship, it was an exciting three games and it was an experience I won't forget.
What are some of your hobbies outside of soccer?
I like to take a lot of naps but I also like to travel outside of Texas during our school breaks.
Do you have any pregame superstitions?
I have to drink my orange pineapple spark an hour before the game. I also wear my blue and orange camo arm sleeve. I wear the same black Nike headband. I have to have some sort of braid in my hair each game. I also wear tape on my left wrist that says “Play 4 Him”, to remind myself who I play for and represent.
What are your personal goals entering the season?
I want our team to go undefeated in conference and to be the #1 seed in the tournament. Since my freshman year, our team has continued to break records each year and I want this season to be the best yet. I want us to win conference. I think that's what everyone on this team wants, especially the seniors since it will be our last season at a chance to be conference champions.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I want to go to Australia when I'm older. I would love to spend a month there to explore and backpack around the country. I've heard a lot of great things about it and it's just a beautiful place that I would love to explore someday.
What is your favorite place to eat in Huntsville?
My favorite place to eat would probably be Five Loaves. My teammate/roommate, Kylie Dick, and I go there at least three times a week for lunch.
Who is your favorite soccer player?
My favorite soccer player would probably have to be Ali Krieger. She plays defense for the USWNT. She has a great story about all of the obstacles and health issues she had to overcome in college that led to her playing for the national team.
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Sarcastic, energetic and outgoing
What does a perfect day look like to you?
My PERFECT day would be shopping in Florence, Italy eating gelato and ravioli every day.
If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, what would it be and why?
It would most definitely be either The Office or Friends. I've re-watched both shows a million times and I find them hilarious. Anyone who knows me knows that I quote The Office more than anything. Especially during practice at 6 a.m. in the fall.
If you weren't playing soccer, what sport would you be playing?
Volleyball. I enjoy playing sand volleyball during the summer. My sister played volleyball growing up and I practiced with her at home a lot.
Who are your all-time favorite artists/bands?
I like Eric Church and G-Eazy. They are a complete 180 of each other but I like them both lol.
What is your best advice to give to the younger players?
Senior year sneaks up on you fast. I remember when I was a freshman, the seniors said the same thing. And now here I am, finally a senior and wishing that I could do it all over again. Each year, the experience gets better. Not everyone has an enjoyable freshman year, I know because I didn't. But each year, becomes so much more valuable to you not just as a player, but also as a person. The people you meet will impact your life throughout the years at Sam. I made the perfect decision for me to play here at Sam and it has given me an experience I don't think I would've been able to obtain from any other school.
If you had a bucket list, what is one thing that would be on it?
I want to go cage diving with great whites.
