7/8/2016 7:16:00 PM | Soccer
Leading up to the 2016 Sam Houston State soccer season, we'll visit with the team's seven seniors. The unit seeks to add on to success from last season that included the program's first 10-win season and an appearance in the Southland Conference Tournament championship game.
In the third edition, we catch up with Spring native Jordan Jarzombek. The Klein Oak High School product played in 19 matches including making five starts a season ago. Jarzombek scored the winning goal against Stephen F. Austin in a 1-0 win at Pritchett Field and played 577 minutes at the Southland Tournament. As a sophomore, she played in 17 matches, starting two games and netting the game's opening-goal in the 24th minute in an eventual 2-0 win at Lamar. She also played 71 minutes across six matches as a freshman.
What is your favorite thing about Sam Houston State?
The lifelong friendships that I have developed with the people that I met by coming to Sam.
What is your most fond memory of playing soccer for the Bearkats?
The team has a lot to do with my love for this team. Everyone is so close knit and so fun to be around. A great memory I recently had this past season was scoring the goal that beat SFA; breaking their 32-game winning streak. It was a great feeling for me but more about my team because we play together and everything we do on that field is for one another.
What are some of your hobbies outside of soccer?
Running and eating
Do you have any pregame superstitions?
I typically wear the ponytail and hair style if I do well that game. If I play poorly, I change it.
What are your personal goals entering the season?
To be a good motivational and constructive leader; to play be best and give all I have every minute.
If you could visit anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
Poland because it is where my family and relatives came from. I would love to see what my culture is all about and maybe one day play there.
What is your favorite place to eat in Huntsville?
Farmhouse
Who is your favorite soccer player?
Abby Wambach
What three words would you use to describe yourself?
Confident, loud and caring
What does a perfect day look like to you?
Staying home all day and accomplishing all the things that I have my mind set on.
If you could live in a book, TV show or movie, what would it be and why?
Criminal Minds. I'm so addicted to that show, 9 times out of 10, Criminal Minds is playing.
If you weren't playing soccer, what sport would you be playing?
Running track. I always had a thing for running. It is my time to clear my head and be on my own.
Who are your all-time favorite artists/bands?
I don't have a favorite; my music goes by what I'm feeling that day.
What is your best advice to give to the younger players?
Even when nothing is going your way. Keep striving for your dream; you will make it one day.
If you had a bucket list, what is one thing that would be on it?
It is a long shot but going to an underprivileged, poverty struck place in another country, staying for a little bit to help support and provide the little things to those in need.
