Sam Houston State volleyball had its four-match win streak snapped on Tuesday night, falling 3-1 (18-25, 25-14, 17-25, 21-25) at Texas State in its first midweek action of the year.
The Bearkats (4-3) battled back after dropping the first set, hitting .357 in the second in an 11-point win but could not slow down Texas State (4-4) in the third. The Bobcats hit .467 in the frame while handing Sam Houston its first loss in fewer than five sets.
Sam Houston outside hitter Jordyn Vaughn notched a team-leading 15 kills while Taylor Cunningham added 11. Michelle Griffith finished with 38 assists and Breanna Homer secured 12 digs.
The Bearkats were out-blocked 9-3 on the night. In the fourth set, after Sam Houston fell behind 19-11, the team stormed back to the tune of five straight points including back-to-back kills by Vaughn to cut the deficit to three at 19-16.
On two occasions late, the Texas State lead was cut to two at 21-19 on a Vaughn service ace and 23-21 on a Bobcats' service error but it would not be enough.
