After the first day of the SFA Stormin' Ladyjack Classic, the fourth-ranked Sam Houston bowling team sits in sixth place.
The Kats went 2-3 on the opening day, picking up wins over Sacred Heart and Youngstown State. The three losses were by a total of just 50 pins.
“It was a solid day overall but we have to fill frames at the pivotal moment, especially when the matches are close,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “Tomorrow's all about filling frames and getting back to building momentum for Sunday's match play.”
The Kats opened the day with a 1,082, which was the third-best score of the tournament. They finished the day with a total pinfall of 5,007 and are just 74 pins out of third place. The top four teams after Saturday will compete for the tournament title on Sunday.
“We are where we need to be, but have to have a strong day tomorrow,” Hagen said. “While I would have like a few more wins, we have positioned ourselves well for Sunday.”
Saturday's action continues with five traditional team matches, starting at 9:25 a.m. (Nol. 12 Monmouth, No. 8 Delaware State, No. 18 North Carolina A&T, Lincoln Memorial and No. 17 LIU-Brooklyn).
