The Sam Houston bowlers finished the final day of the SFA Stormin Ladyjack Classic strong, winning all three matches to take third place.
The three wins included victories over a pair of top 10 squads.
“It was a huge day today,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “We got our money's worth today. It was another glimpse of what we can do late in matches if our heads are where they need to be.”
The fourth-ranked Kats opened the day with a win over No. 2 Arkansas State, closing out the seventh game with a 212-164 win. They then knocked off No. 14 Wisconsin-Whitewater in six games to advance to the third-place match.
In the final match of the day, the Kats jumped up to a 3-1 lead on No. 7 SFA, before being forced to a seventh game. In the deciding game, the Kats held on for a 216-181 win.
“I think if you look at our last two days of this tournament, you can see what kind of team we can be,” Hagen said about the team's 7-1 record on Saturday and Sunday. “Our team is learning how to compete in big matches and get the result.”
