The Sam Houston State bowling team dropped two spots to No. 4 in this month's top 25 poll, announced by the National Tenpins Coaches Association.
The Kats competed just once in January, taking sixth at the Prairie View A&M Invitational. Nebraska, which won the tournament, vaulted to No. 1. The No. 2 ranking in the December poll was the highest for the Bearkat program since winning the National Championship in 2014.
The bowlers are off to their best start to a season, totaling 48 wins though five competitions. In the first half of the season, they won three of their four NCAA events.
“This was a really strong field to start the second half of the season,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “After a slow start I thought we came back and bowled like we had been all season long.”
The Bearkats will be back in action on Feb. 10 in the SFA Invitational in Houston.
