The Kats have an overall record of 57-20 this year with four tournament titles to their credit.
“I think the most important thing for us has been our consistency,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “Even when we have had a bad day at a tournament, we have not let that affect us and we come out the next day and make the shots we know we are capable of.”
They competed just once in February, taking third-place at the SFA Invitational in Houston. Only once this season has the team finished outside the top four in any of their tournaments.
McKendree University captured 19 first place votes to claim the top spot in the NTCA March Poll. This marks their first No. 1 ranking in National Tenpin Coaches Association history.
Nebraska received 13 first place votes to help them to a No. 2 ranking. Arkansas State is close behind with Sam Houston State (57-20) , Vanderbilt (65-29) , Fairleigh Dickinson (52-22) , and Stephen F. Austin (66-38) maintaining their previous poll rankings of 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th respectfully. The University of Maryland Eastern-Shore climbs one spot into the poll's elite eight.
The Hornets of Delaware State University (47-19) grab the No. 9 ranked position, while the University of Central Missouri (42-24) jumps one spot to round out the top ten.
The next NTCA Coaches Poll will be released April 5th.
The Bearkats will return to action this weekend as they head to New Jersey to compete in the Hawk Flight Invitational. There are just two regular season events remaining before the Southland Bowling League Championships March 24-26 in Jonesboro, Ark.
