FRISCO – Lindsey McLeod was named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week in an announcement made by league officials on Monday.
It is the first time in her career that she has earned a league honor and the first time a Bearkat has claimed one this season.
McLeod was stellar in three appearances on the week, not allowing a run over 12.0 innings of work. The sophomore righty struck out 15 and allowed just 4 hits in that span, holding hitters to just an .098 average.
She opened the week with an inning of scoreless relief at No. 14 Baylor, then got the start in the second game of a weekend series against Central Arkansas. McLeod was nearly untouchable in that game, tying her career high with 11 strikeouts and allowing just one hit in a complete-game shutout effort. She then entered in relief once again in the series finale, striking out four more Bears and allowing just two hits in 4.0 innings to close out the game.
McLeod is currently tied for the league lead in opponent's batting average, holding hitters to a .190 mark while also ranking 11th with 53 strikeouts. She is sporting a 2.04 ERA in conference play with 25 of her strikeouts coming against Southland Conference hitters.
The Bearkats will next be in action on Friday when it opens up a weekend series against Stephen F. Austin in Huntsville. First pitch for Friday's doubleheader is set for 3 p.m.
