
Sam Houston squads come up big over weekend

HOUSTON – Sam Houston State track and field split time on the weekend, continuing its surge at the LSU Alumni Gold and J. Fred Duckett Rice Twilight Invitational.

Sam Houston's Jeffrey Moore continued his breakout season, capturing fifth-place with a Southland Conference-leading 1:49.07 in the 800-meter dash. The junior trailed only competitors from LSU and Clemson in the field of 15.
Likewise, Tristyn Allen shined in the triple jump. The sophomore's distance of 41 feet, 5 ¼ inches was good enough for sixth and ranks tops in the conference.
Tasha Crosse also captured a major mark in the discus throw, tossing a first-place, 165 feet, 3 inches, to her second event of the season. The distance is tops in the league and is a new personal-best for the transfer.
Ashton Summers used a personal-best mark of 16 feet, 7 ½ inches to move into fifth on the league's performance list in the pole vault. The sophomore took second while teammate Bailey Henderson took fourth with a personal best at the same height.
Sage Revell surged in the triple jump notching a lifetime-best 49 feet, ¾ inches for second place result, moving into fourth in the league.
Kodii Church brought home a runner-up finish in the 400-meter dash, racing to a 54.96, the Southland's fourth-best time in the outdoor season. The result was a new lifetime best for the senior and came among a field of 28 competitors.
The Bearkats flexed their muscle in the shot put as Kristine Hanks posted an unattached mark of 49 feet, 3 ¾ inches to take fourth place while teammate Halie Daniel moved into fourth in the league with a personal-best toss of 46 feet, 7 ½ inches with a seventh-place result.
On the men's side, Michael Nichols brought home a sixth-place finisher and toss of 55 feet, 9 ¾ inches, which ranks fifth in the conference.
Chris Jefferson took third place in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.21 as did Eric Pouncey in the 400-meter dash (47.86). Yarixza Rivera brought home a fifth-place mark of 177 feet, 1 inch in the hammer.
J. FRED DUCKETT RICE TWILIGHT RECAP
Chris Speaks posted the nation's No. 46 time in the 3,000-meter steeplechase behind a runner-up 8:57.06. The senior finished as the top collegiate team competitor and was joined by Evan Arambula, who took fourth with a time of 9:04.57.
Nicole Aponte also captured a second-place finisher, doing so with a time of 4:27.89 in the 1,500-meter run. The Southland Conference leader in the event was followed by teammate Meaghen Seales, who took eighth place with a personal-best 4:48.82.
Seales added to her strong day as the second-leg of Sam Houston's 4x400-meter relay squad. Alongside Jamie Eckford, Aponte and Rebekah Groth, the unit took a runner-up, 3:57.99.
In the 5,000-meter run, senior Olivia Olguin secured her best mark of the outdoor season, taking fifth place with a time of 17:35.19. The result marked Olguin's third-straight top-10 finisher in the event.
