HUNTSVILLE – The 2017 College Sports Information Directors (CoSIDA) Academic All-District softball team was announced late last week with Sam Houston State sophomore Lindsey McLeod being named to the all-District 7 team for her performance both athletically and in the classroom.
It is her first such honor in what is her first year of eligibility for the team, and the selection is the first for a Bearkat since Alyssa Coggins was named to the all-district team in 2014.
The Academic All-District 7 team includes student-athletes from schools across Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming and includes 11 players. McLeod is one of three Southland Conference student-athletes to be named to the team, along with Abilene Christian's Briana Barnhill and Houston Baptist's Cecilia Bauer.
With her placement on the all-district team, the public health major will advance to the ballot for consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team which will be selected later this month.
McLeod has been stellar for the Bearkats all season long, and has turned it up a notch in conference play. The sophomore right-handed pitcher has twice been named the SLC Pitcher of the Week and ranks in the top 10 in the SLC in wins (11), saves (3), strikeouts (109), and opponent's batting average (.196) while also sporting a 2.88 ERA.
She has twice equaled her career high in single-game strikeouts with 11 punchouts in wins over both Texas Southern and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and has been named the Southland Conference's Pitcher of the Week a pair of times.
McLeod picked up a pair of victories this weekend in Sam Houston's sweep of Houston Baptist which clinched a berth in the SLC Tournament for the Kats. She and the rest of her teammates will kick off the event on Wednesday when they take on Central Arkansas.
