EUGENE, Ore. – Sam Houston State's Jeffrey Moore shattered his previous personal best and set a new school record to highlight action for the Bearkats at the NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships.
The junior ran 1:47.40 in the 800 meters to capture fourth in his heat and capped a record-setting for the Carrollton, Texas, product who took home three gold medals at the outdoor championships. The trip to TrackTown was the first for Moore after qualifying with a 1:48.46 at the west preliminary.
Chris Jefferson took seventh in the second heat of a highly-contested 100-meter dash behind a time of 11.52. The sophomore, who was named Men's Outstanding Running Events Performer at the league championships, set a school record at the west prelims at 10.17.
Meanwhile, Josh Hernandez took ninth in the hammer throw with a toss of 66.95 meters. The freshman, who began his Sam Houston career in style, finished runner-up at the Southland Outdoor Championships and posted a new personal best at the west prelims.
