Weneski Named SLC Pitcher Of The Week

FRISCO – Sophomore right-hander Hayden Weneski has been named the Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week per an announcement by league officials on Tuesday following a dominating performance against Kent State this weekend.
Just a night after a heartbreaking loss in the season opener vs Kent State, Wesneski gave the Kats just what they needed to even things up on Saturday. The sophomore allowed just four hits and one unearned run in a complete-game win over the Golden Flashes.
He recorded 15 outs on the ground and did not allow a runner to reach third base until late in the ninth inning. Wesneski finished with a career-high eight strikeouts and did not walk or hit a batter.
He needed just 97 pitches to finish off KSU in a game that lasted exactly two hours of game time, while his lone run allowed happened with two outs in the ninth due to an error on a potential game-ending double-play ball.
Wesneski won 10 games a year ago as a true freshman on his way to being named both the SLC Freshman of the Year and a Freshman All-American, helping him earn preseason all-SLC honors entering 2018.
