The Bearkat bowlers wrapped up the regular season on Sunday with two big victories and will be bringing home some hardware as well.
The Kats fell in the championship match to No. 2 ranked McKendree for a second place finish at the Music City Classic hosted by Vanderbilt.
“Sunday's are always a roller coaster of emotions and momentum swings and we did a great job today taking advantage of our breaks as well as applying pressure to our opponent every set,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “Getting the opening win of the day was big for us. It really set the tone for the rest of the day.”
The Kats, who started the day seeded fourth, opened play with a 4-1 win over Lincoln Memorial. They bowled strong in all five games, topping 200 in each game.
They followed with a 4-2 win over Southland foe Arkansas State, clinching the match with a resounding 247-182 win. In the finals against McKendree, Sam Houston won two of the first three games to take a 2-1 lead. In game 4, McKendree edged the Kats 222-217 and never looked back taking the final two games as well to clinch a 4-2 and the title.
“We need to build off from this weekend and carry it all in to conference,” Hagen said. “We still have a great opportunity a head of us and our goal is not only show up at conference but we want to win it.”
The Bearkats will now head to the Southland Bowling League Championships in Dallas starting on Friday.
