
Lamar hands Kats first SLC loss

BEAUMONT - The Sam Houston State women's soccer team suffered its first Southland Conference loss Sunday in a 5-0 setback on the road at Lamar.
The Bearkats fell to 4-6-1 overall and 2-1-1 in league play. Sunday's loss was the first time Sam Houston State was held scoreless in four Southland Conference matches.
The Cardinals (7-6-0 overall) scored three goals in the first half, including two in the first five minutes of the match, to improve to 4-1-0 in the Southland Conference standings. Lamar scored two more goals in the second to put the match away.
Esther Okoronkwo led the Cardinals with two goals, while Lucy Ashworth, Anna Loftus and Madison Ledet all scored once.
Sam Houston State managed just five shots on goal in the loss.
The Bearkats were supposed to play McNeese this past Friday evening in Lake Charles, Louisiana, but weather forced the game to be postponed. It has been rescheduled for Oct. 13 at 1 p.m.
Sam Houston State will on the road at Northwestern State Friday at 7 p.m.
