HOUSTON – The Bearkat bowlers posted a 4-1 record on the opening day of the TRACK Kat Klash and currently sit in 3rdplace in the 16-team event at Emerald Bowl in Houston.
The Kats trail just No. 4 Nebraska and No. 2 ranked McKendree in total pinfall with an average of 192 over the five baker matches.
They opened the day with a win over Alabama State and followed that with a win over Youngstown State. After a three-pin loss to Prairie View A&M, they bounced back, knocking off SFA and Arkansas State.
“We got some very quality wins today and have put ourselves in great position for a top four seed and chance to win this,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “You always want to do well playing in your home event and with that I think comes some added nerves and pressure. I think we responded well to those moments and bowled well.”
Saturday's action will be five traditional matches as the team's try and position themselves for the best of 7 bracket play on Sunday. The top four teams after Saturday will compete for the championship on Sunday. The Kats will face Tulane in the first match on Saturday.
