
Bearkats bowlers in position to win title

It was an up and down day for the Sam Houston bowlers, but when the dust settled, the Kats will enter Sunday's bracket play as the No. 1 seed.
The Bearkats posted just a 2-3 record, But they are tops in the tournament in total pinfall. They will face Arkansas State Sunday, playing for a spot in the championship match.
“It was a whirlwind of a day for us on the lanes,” said head coach Brad Hagen. “We didn't get the wins we would have liked, but at the end of the day, we sit on top of the standings and have put ourselves in a position to win the tournament, which is all you can ask.”
Individually, Lynne Fishler led the way for the Bearkats. She posted a 219 average over the five games bowled on Saturday and stands in third place. She missed the top spot by just four pins. Her high game of the day was a team-best 279.
The Kats picked up wins against Kutztown and LIU, including a their best game of 1,098 in the win over Kutztown.
