Soccer receives SLC academic honors

FRISCO - The Sam Houston State women's soccer team landed two student-athletes on the 2019 Southland Conference all-academic teams, the league announced Thursday.
Junior midfielder Courtney Pawlik was an automatic first-team selection after being named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District VII women's soccer second team in November. Junior forward Sammi Mayock earned a spot on the SLC all-academic second team.
Both players played key roles in helping the Bearkats make it back to the SLC tournament this past season.
Pawlik has a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in health sciences and health care administration. She is a senior academically but a junior eligibility-wise and has made the President's and Dean's lists each semester she has been at Sam Houston State.
Pawlik is also a member of the Sam Houston State Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. On the field, she was the Bearkats' team captain and scored two goals and had three assists.
Mayock graduated with a degree in criminal justice in two only years with a 3.64 GPA, and she is currently a graduate student despite having another season of eligibility. She made the President's and Dean's lists last semester.
Mayock was second on the team with four goals and tied for eighth in points to earn third-team All-SLC honors despite missing two matches due to injury.
