HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston State Bearkats will test their mettle against a tough field this weekend when it takes part in five games at the Texas Invitational.
Sam Houston is at 5-6 on the young season and coming off a second-place finish at last weekend's Getterman Classic in Waco and head to Austin fresh off a 4-3 road win over reigning Sun Belt Conference champion Texas State.
All games of the Texas Invitational will be broadcast on the Longhorn Network and the ESPN app. Each game will be available live online; however, three of the games will be tape delayed with those replay times listed in the schedule above.
It will be a tough test for the Kats with two games apiece against Tulsa and Ole Miss, as well as a game against the host Longhorns who are currently ranked No. 11 in the nation.
The Kats have got a number of key contributions early in the year, including a significant push from freshmen Kyndal Kutac and Regan Dunn. Kutac is already showing why the coaching staff was high on her entering the year, having connected on three home runs in just nine games, while Dunn has posted a 3.57 ERA and already picked up a pair of wins in the circle.
Sophomore Brooke Malia is off to a strong start offensively with five extra-base hits and 11 RBI in 11 games, while Tiffany Thompson has already doubled three times, including a leadoff double on Wednesday against Texas State that set up the go-ahead run in extra innings.
The weekend will be a homecoming of sorts for a number of Bearkats, including Austin native Lindsey McLeod and Georgetown natives Megan McDonald and Ashley Goetz.
