
Kats stand out in Central Texas

AUSTIN – The Sam Houston Track and Field team wrapped up a weekend of competition with stellar individual performances as the Bearkats competed in the Bobcat Invitational and the Texas Relays.
On the campus of the University of Texas in Austin, Texas, Freshman Jo'vaughn Martin and senior Chris Jefferson were standout performers in the track events. Martin competed in the 100-meter dash, while Jefferson competed in both the 100 and 200-meter races.
Martin came in second place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.17. That mark is now his own personal record for the event surpassing his time of 10.25, which was set during the TSU Relays.
Jefferson did a great job in his running events. He placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.52 and placed fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.26.

In the field events, Aaron Akens competed in the hammer throw and discus throw. The senior came in second in the discus throw with a mark of 54.11m. His throw of 63.23m in the hammer throw is his second best of the outdoor season so far.
Back in San Marcos, Texas, senior Jordan Leon stood out among the Bearkat athletes over the weekend.
Leon posted a time of 4:00.80 in the 1500. The mark is a new personal record surpassing his mark of 4:04.67 posted during the Bryan Clay Invitational in 2018.
The Bearkats will return to action as they will travel to Nacogdoches for the Carl Knight Invitational & Multi and then to Houston On Saturday April 6 for the Houston Invitational.
