LUBBOCK — The Sam Houston State men's and women's track teams competed in the Red Raider Invitational hosted by Texas Tech over the weekend and brought home several top-five finishes.

After winning the pole vault at the Ted Nelson Invitational a week ago, Clayton Fritsch placed second in Lubbock with a height of 5.53 meters. It matched the winning height but Texas Tech's Brandon Bray cleared it in his first attempt and Fritsch his third.

Jo'Vaughn Martin turned in a solid performance in the 200-meter dash with a second-place finish in a time of 20.85. Fabian McCall captured fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.89, two spots ahead of Joshua Smith who turned in a time of 7.94.

Joe Austin III placed eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.35, and Sergio Armendariz also finished eighth in the mile with a time of 4:27.96.

Other top-10 performances in field events for the men included Zachary Johnson who was fifth in the triple jump (15.21 meters) and ninth in the long jump (7.16 meters), and Caleb Jolivette who was 10th in the long jump (7.11 meters). Cobe Graham was eighth in the shot put (15.18 meters), Brian Orlando was ninth in the B section of the shot put (14.81 meters) and fifth in the B section of the weight throw (14.84 meters) and Daveon Thomas was eighth in the weight throw (16.47 meters).

Junior Rebeca Gonzalez was eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:20.71, and sophomore Sandy Clarkin placed ninth with a time of 2:21.53. In the mile, sophomore Cryslan Tucker came in ninth with a time of 5:19.56.

Top-10 finishes in the field events included Morgan Janda placing fourth in the B section of the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters, Shaynea Redmond finishing tied for 10th in the long jump with a leap of 5.62 meters, Rachel Smith placing seventh in the weight throw with a toss of 16.04 meters and Alexis Sacky placing ninth in the B section of the weight throw with a mark of 14.59 meters.
