HUNTSVILLE – The Sam Houston Bearkats returned from the holiday break with a bang on Monday night, cruising by Our Lady of the Lake, 100-73, at Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
The win was the final tune up for the Kats (4-2) before opening up Southland Conference play on Saturday at Nicholls.
Four Bearkats landed in double figures for the game, led by
Faith Cook's 24 points, a mark just two points shy of her career high. The senior hit four 3-point buckets for the game and dished out six assists.
Amber Leggett added 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting with six boards and
Kaylee Jefferson tallied a double-double, going for 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Jolicia Williams also got a nod in the starting lineup and responded with 15 points.
In all, the Kats shot 50 percent from the field and were able to overcome 23 turnovers by finishing with a +18 margin on the glass, including 24 offensive rebounds.
Sam Houston will now turn its attention to Southland Conference play, kicking things off on the road on Saturday at Nicholls. The game is set to tip off at 2:00 p.m. from Stopher Gym and will be aired on ESPN+.

The Kats will next be in Johnson Coliseum on January 6 when they host Southeastern Louisiana.
