Lampley garners SLC weekly honor

FRISCO — Sam Houston State senior guard Demarkus Lampley was a key part of the Bearkats improving to 3-0 in Southland Conference play, and he has been rewarded for his efforts.

Lampley has been named the SLC men's basketball Player of the Week after leading the Kats to a pair of road wins at Southeastern Louisiana on Jan. 6 and Central Arkansas on Jan. 9. It is the first time in his career he has earned the weekly honor.

Lampley scored a game-high 21 points on five of 10 shooting from 3-point range with seven rebounds and two steals in the 70-52 victory over the Lions. He followed that with a game-high 23 points, three rebounds and two steals in a 91-80 victory over the Bears.

For the week, the Phenix City, Alabama native averaged 22 points, five rebounds and two steals while shooting 54.8 percent from the floor and 40 percent from long range.
