COLLEGE STATION — The Sam Houston men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Ted Nelson Invitational indoor meet hosted by Texas A&M Saturday.

Senior standout Clayton Fritsch took first place in the pole vault with a jump of 5.41 meters to highlight action for the men.

Senior Halie Daniel had a strong showing on the women's side, finishing in first in the shot put with a toss of 14.01 meters. She was also third in the weight throw with a distance of 15.84 meters.

In other women's running events, senior Rebeca Gonzalez placed third in the mile with a time of 5:08.08, junior Sasha Elizondo was sixth at 5:23.87 and sophomore Haley Thomas was eighth at 5:35.17. Freshman Baylee Lara finished seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.01.

Junior Cryslan Tucker was seventh in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:22.12, and freshman Lauren Reyna was ninth at 12:02.85.

Sophomore Shaynea Redmond was fifth in the long jump with a leap of 5.51 meters. Freshman Bailey Cotten was ninth in the pole vault with a height of 3.46 meters.

On the men's side, junior Rylan Olguin finished third in the pole vault with a height of 5.06 meters. Junior Zachary Johnson also placed third in the long jump with a leap of 7.07 meters.

Junior Brian Orlando placed third in the shot put with a mark of 14.55 meters, and he was fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 14.34 meters. Freshman Kevin Kindt was fourth in the shot put at 13.54, while freshman Ben Ruiz was sixth in the shot put at 13.31 and seventh in the weight throw at 11.29.

Junior Austin Zirkel placed fourth in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:39.94, and freshman Kyan Wallace was 13th at 8:56.13. Freshman Dalton Page finished eighth in the mile run with a time of 4:24.62

Sophomore Nathaniel McRae was seventh in the 200 meters with a time of 21.78, and junior Eric Callaway was 11th at 21.96. Sophomore Cameron Brown was 12th in the 400 meters at 49.54, and freshman Benjamin Marshall was 14th at 50.17.

Junior Stanley Williams was fifth in the long jump with a distance of 6.86 meters, freshman Marttin Lepaste was ninth at 6.61 and senior Joshua Hamilton was 10th at 6.34. Freshman Bryce Barby placed eighth in the high jump with a leap of 1.83 meters.
