HUNTSVILLE — It was a successful return to the court for the Sam Houston State tennis team as the Bearkats swept a pair of dual matches against Prairie View A&M at the McAdams Tennis Center Sunday.
 
The Kats won the first match 6-1 and finished the day with a 7-0 victory in the nightcap.
 
Sahaja Yamalapalli won both of her matches at No. 1 singles. She defeated Victoria Fuenmayor Castillo 6-1, 6-0 in the opener and 6-0, 6-1 in the second match.
 
Sophomore Isidora Zivkovic got the nod at No. 2 singles in the first match, defeating Mahogani Green 6-0, 6-0. Zivkovic played in the third flight in match two and topped Ruju Chauhan 6-0, 6-0 as well.
 
Junior Karla De La Luz Montalvo stepped into No. 2 singles in the second match and defeated Green 6-3, 6-1. She opened the day with a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory over Chauhan at No. 3 singles.
 
Senior Constandena Nicolaou won the fourth flight in the opening match, stopping Jimena Duran-Castellanos 6-4, 6-3. She played No. 5 singles in the second match and defeated Salma Sanchez Villalobos 6-3, 6-1.
 
Freshman Andrijana Brkic picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Duran-Castellanos at No. 4 singles in the second match. In the opening win, she knocked off Villalobos 6-0 at the No. 6 spot.
 
Sophomore Petra Kaszas defeated Jessica Lackey 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles in the first match. Freshman Sahithi Vutukuru picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win over Anette Lira at No. 6 singles in the second match.
 
In doubles action in the first match, Zivkovic and Roos Gerritsen defeated Duran-Castellanos and Villalobos 6-2 at No. 3. De La Luz Montalvo and Kaszas lost to Green and Castillo 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Yamalapalli and Vutukuru fell to Lackey and Chauhan 6-3 at No. 2.
 
The Bearkats swept all three doubles matches in the finale. Yamalapalli and Zivkovic toppled Green and Castillo 6-3 in the No. 1 spot. De La Luz Montalvo and Kaszas defeated Lackey and Chauhan 6-2 at No. 3, and Nicolaou and Brkic took the No. 3 flight 6-0 over Duran-Castellanos and Villalobos.
 
Sam Houston returns to action Wednesday when the Bearkats play another doubleheader against Tarleton at 11 a.m. Spectators are allowed at Bearkat home matches this season and must adhere to the following McAdams Tennis Center COVID protocols.
