FORT WORTH — The Sam Houston tennis team dropped its first dual match of the season at TCU Saturday.
The Horned Frogs (4-0) topped the Bearkats (4-1) 4-0 at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU began by taking the doubles point with consecutive victories at No. 2 and No. 3.
In No. 2 doubles action, Stevie Kennedy and Tate Schroeder defeated Constadena Nicolaou and
Petra Kaszas 6-1. Marie Norris and Addy Guevara then hand
Isidora Zivkovic and
Roos Gerritsen a 6-3 setback.
TCU took a 2-0 lead after Norris, who is ranked No. 68 in the ITA, stopped Zivkovic 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Isabel Pascual defeated freshman
Andrijana Brkic 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles, and Mercedes Aristegui topped junior
Karla De La Luz Montalvo 6-1, 6-4 to end the match.
Junior
Sahaja Yamalapalli was on the verge of posting a win against a top 50 ITA ranked player. She was leading No. 46 ranked Tate Schroeder 6-3, 3-2 when the match was called.
The Bearkats return to action Sunday at noon against North Texas in Denton.
