Sahaja Yamalapalli remained unbeaten on the season as the Sam Houston tennis team fell to North Texas, 4-1, Sunday at the Waranch Tennis Complex.
Yamalapalli defeated Nidhi Surapaneni 6-3, 6-3 to improve to 5-0 at No. 1 singles on the season. She just missed a possible win over a top-50 ranked ITA player Saturday when she was leading No. 46-ranked Tate Schroeder of TCU 6-3, 3-2 when the match was called in a dual match loss to the Horned Frogs.
North Texas (1-2) opened the match by taking the doubles point from the Bearkats (4-2). Surapaneni and Lucie Devier defeated Yamalapalli and junior
Karla De La Luz Montalvo 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, and Maria Ponomareva and Kexuan Zhou topped sophomore
Petra Kaszas and senior
Constandena Nicolaou 6-2 at No. 2.

Isidora Zivkovic and freshman
Sahithi Vutukuru were winning 4-3 at No. 3 doubles when the doubles point was decided.
In singles action, Nicolaou was close to posting a win in the No. 4 spot, as she led Hummel 6-3, 5-5 when the match was called. Vutukura dropped the first set to Saki Oyama 7-5 but was leading the second 4-3 at No. 6 when North Texas sealed the win with a victory at No. 5 singles as Zhou defeated freshman
Andrijana Brkic 7-5, 6-2.
Zivkovic fell to Devier 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while De La Luz Montalvo dropped her No. 3 match to Ponomareva 6-2, 6-1.
The Bearkats will face Texas Tech in Houston at 3 p.m. Feb. 3.
