HUNTSVILLE — The Sam Houston soccer team scored two early goals and held off a late rally to defeat Abilene Christian 2-1 in Western Athletic Conference action at Pritchett Field on Sunday.

The Bearkats (5-7 overall, 3-2 in WAC) have now won back-to-back games. Sam Houston knocked off Chicago State 5-0 on Friday.

The Kats struck quickly against the Wildcats (4-5-1, 2-1-1). Landri Townsend sent a cross into the middle of the box, and Lexi Primacio pushed the ball into the left side of the net past the goalkeeper in the ninth minute.

It did not take long for Sam Houston to make it 2-0. This time Townsend was on the receiving end of a pass from Brooke Jones, and Townsend drilled the ball into the bottom left corner of the net in the 11^th minute.

ACU finally answered with a relentless attack that resulted in a goal by Chayse Thorn in the 84^th minute, but the Bearkat defense did a solid job of keeping the ball on the Wildcats' side of the field in the final minutes to seal the victory.

Goalkeeper Tatum Krueger finished with 10 saves for Sam Houston.
