Late goal lifts Lamar past Kats

HUNTSVILLE — Lamar scored a late second-half goal to hand the Sam Houston soccer team a 2-1 setback Friday evening at Pritchett Field.

The Bearkats (5-8 overall, 3-3 in WAC) took a 1-0 lead in the first half. Alexis Truitt crossed the ball in front of the goal, and a sliding Grace Stine toe poked it past Cardinals goalkeeper Nicole Panis to the left side in the 28th minute.

Lamar (6-6-1, 4-1-1) scored the equalizer in the 37th minute with a goal by Christine Kitaru. Kitaru later scored the game winner in the 83rd minute with a floating shot into the top-left corner of the net that Bearkat goalkeeper Tatum Krueger had no chance at getting a hand on.

Krueger finished with eight saves, while Landri Townsend led Sam Houston with two shots on goal.

The Bearkats will host UTRGV at Pritchett Field on Sunday at 2 p.m.
